The capital of Samos since the principality era is located 18 km. away. It is conveniently located from the airport and is amphitheatrically built in a beautiful bay. The Square of Pythagoras is a central town point, built-in 1864. The town is the administrative center of the island and features high-quality tourist infrastructure along with restaurants and entertainment facilities. It is worth visiting the Archaeological Museum, where the colossal Kouros is exhibited among many other imposing statues (including the Group of Geneleos), grave objects, and offerings, mainly from the area of Heraion.
You should also visit the Ecclesiastical Museum of the Metropolis, the Public Library, the Cathedral of St. Spyridon, the Wine Museum in Malagari, and the wonderful neoclassical buildings. Other places worth visiting are the City Hall and the Municipal Gallery, which housed the Chamber of Samian Deputies during the Principality era, and the Historical Archive of Samos.
