Why should I study here?

AUAS is a young organisation with a rich history, committed to the future and to innovation in Amsterdam and beyond. We have a joint Executive Board with the University of Amsterdam (UvA), and this close cooperation is particularly valuable for research purposes. In 2018, we marked a milestone for the AUAS, celebrating the 25th anniversary of our institution in its current form.

What are the admissions criteria?

Applicants need to apply by May 1st through the studies link.  Students must have a high school education, which is equivalent to the Dutch "HAVO".  For most countries (including the US), this is a regular high school diploma. Any three-year programs that require VWO equivalence (IB diploma, 4 AP scores of 3+, A levels, and 1 year of college). Country-specific requirements for the levels can be found here.

What is student life like?

AUAS/HvA is building a unique campus in the city centre: the Amstel campus. The Amstel campus will be a true city campus that unites education within AUAS/HvA. It is a dynamic and stimulating location that brings students, lecturers, staff and local residents closer together. Students will venture into the local neighbourhoods to conduct projects and research and to make a contribution to society. At the same time, companies and institutions seek to settle in the vicinity of this research and knowledge development centre. Students from the AUAS/HvA are welcome to join the students' sports club of the University of Amsterdam, which offers many sports facilities. To get help settling in Amsterdam, you can join the International Student Network (ISN), an organization run by students of both AUAS/HvA and the University of Amsterdam. It aims to facilitate the social and cultural integration of international students into Dutch society, with a particular focus on Amsterdam.

Scholarships & Funding

In addition to the Holland Scholarship (5000 euros), non EU students also have the option to apply for the 3000 euro Amsterdam Talent Scholarship.

Housing options.

AUAS has several student residence rooms for their students.  Housing is not guaranteed so be sure to apply early.  Rooms include single and shared options and range from 410-640 euros per month.

Dining information

Additional notes.

The Universities of Applied Sciences are quite reputable in the Netherlands and provide a way for students without the IB/AP requirements held by the universities to study in this very cool country.

That said, students should be aware of extra requirements that may be necessary when applying for graduate school. Read more here.
