Berlin University of Applied Sciences and Technology (BHT)
Description
The Berliner Hochschule für Technik (BHT) is one of Germany‘s largest state universities of applied sciences. With a wide range of forward-looking degree courses and a staff of highly qualified specialists, BHT encourages the career opportunities of all prospective and current students, regardless of their social background.
The Berliner Hochschule für Technik (BHT) was founded in 1971 as the Technische Fachhochschule Berlin (TFH) when several engineering academies were merged. In order to highlight the long tradition of the university and the institutions that preceded it, the TFH was renamed the Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin in 2009. This was to honour Christian Peter Wilhelm Beuth’s contribution to industrial development in Prussia and, above all, his services to the training of technicians. It was only later that historical sources emerged that proved the anti-Semitic statements and actions of C. P. W. Beuth. After a university-wide debate, the members of the Academic Assembly voted in January 2020 to discontinue the name Beuth. As of October 1 2021, Beuth University of Applied Sciences is called Berliner Hochschule für Technik (BHT).
