We offer a good balance between theory and practice. We have 3 English-taught bachelor programs. With a TU Delft master degree, you can work all over the world. You can enjoy one of the student projects like the Nuna or the Dut Racing team.
Student Life
The International Office provides an introductory program for international students, Friday evening international student nights, and several excursions within the Netherlands throughout the year. Delft also offers study associations, which are groups connected to the student's academic department, that offer academic and social opportunities throughout the year. Students can join the Sports Center for 95 euros per year. They offer fitness classes, yoga, endurance sports, martial arts, climbing, and skateboarding, as well as 40 sports clubs. For around 70 euros per year, students can join the culture center which offers classes in various cultural activities including sculpting, dance, media, theater, and music. They also house the five different cultural student associations.
Housing
Housing can be hard to find in Delft. The International Office helps international students arrange housing, but there is no housing guarantee. There are private and shared accommodations ranging from 450-600 euros per month.

If my husband and I could go back in time to university, we would live in Delft. It is a picture-perfect, vibrant university town. Delft is well connected by public transport to the airport and larger cities and it is a stunning cultural haven full of cafes, music, and art that would make any student smile from ear to ear. We lived in Delft for 6 weeks in the summer of 2021 and we did day trips all over The Netherlands looking at schools. TU Delft is truly remarkable and is widely known as the MIT of Europe. If you have a child interested in the fields of science and engineering, I highly recommend a visit to TU Delft.
Admissions are very competitive in that testing is required (sometimes multiple tests depending on the area of study) for entrance. We talked to a number of students during our time on campus that said that it takes on average 2 years longer at TU Delft to finish a degree than the program states because some of the classes are so difficult. That being said, many former students work in research at the university and their alumni are very involved and supportive of the school. They do not give tours outside of their scheduled tour times. We asked more than once and the answer was always no so we ended up booking an English tour day and it was all in Dutch. The campus is near the city center but surrounded by winding canals and greenery. It is growing by leaps and bounds and it is a nice mixture of old and new with all of the new buildings being conceptualized with state-of-the-art sustainability in mind. It is a research institution in every sense of the word.
While living in Delft we learned of the IKEA free coffee program if you download the family app. It is a great tip and a great study spot and it is five minutes from campus. The Hague and Rotterdam by train are 10 minutes and yet Delft is a haven. It has everything you need from a hospital to big grocery stores right in the town center. We found the cost of living affordable if you can find housing. There are active mom groups in Delft that we used for finding our apartment and that I know would be a huge help for a student as well. Our son decided he wanted to do an entrepreneurial and business innovation bachelor’s at Tilburg University versus a more in-depth engineering path and did not finish the application process for TU Delft but we all agree, that Delft is our favorite university town in the world to date.
TU Delft said they had good support for International students but most of the students we met and the student organizations we explored were primarily Dutch. It really depends on what your student is looking for. I hope this is helpful!
