Description
The Iceland Academy of the Arts (ÍA) is a public university located in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is the only university-level institution in Iceland that offers professional education in the arts. IÁ offers a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in fine arts, theater, performance arts, music, design, architecture, and arts education.
The academy was founded in 1911 as the Iceland School of Painting and Sculpture. In 1965, the school was renamed the Iceland Academy of the Arts and expanded to offer programs in other art disciplines. IÁ is a member of the European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA) and the International Association of Schools of Art (INSA).
IÁ is known for its strong focus on innovation and experimentation. The academy’s faculty members are active artists and scholars who are at the forefront of their fields. IÁ graduates are highly sought-after by employers in the arts and culture sector.

Student Life
Orientation days are held during the first week of every semester. The program is organized by Student Services and the International Office. It includes introductory meetings, a campus tour, a crash course in Icelandic, and a reception. We encourage all new students to take part in these activities which serve as a platform for students to meet each other and a tool for adapting to a new environment. Further information about the program and schedule will be sent by email to all new students in mid-August.
Housing
The school provides housing in the student residences. Rooms in the student residences cost around 300 euros per month.
