Why should I study here?

IMC Krems was founded as the International Management Center (IMC) in 1994 by Dr. Heinz Boyer, who is now the university’s Supervisory Board Chairman and majority owner. Eight years later, on April 1, 2002, we were awarded university of applied science status. Since then, the university has grown rapidly. IMC Krems currently offers 17 bachelor's and 10 master's degree programmes, as well as 3 continuing education courses—about 40% of the programmes are taught in English. Our programmes are closely linked to the university’s core focuses of business, digitalisation & engineering, health and life sciences. The university education we provide stands out for its exceptional practical focus and emphasis on leadership and soft skills, as well as the extensive language-learning options available to students and project-based teaching in small groups. We do not think that our university should be an “educational production line”. First-hand learning experiences are fundamental to our teaching approaches.

What are the admissions criteria?

The rolling admissions period for fall begins in November.  Applicants submit a CV, a letter of motivation, and certified diplomas or transcripts. Students from non-anglophone countries must also submit proof of English proficiency. Applicants also need to include a photocopy of their passport. Applications are evaluated by the specific program being applied for and then Skype interviews are arranged. Study spaces are limited to prevent overcrowding. American students need either 4 AP scores of 3+, an SAT of 1360, an ACT of 29, one year of college credits, or an IB diploma.

What is student life like?

In addition to fitness facilities, Campus Sports has a number of trainer-run programs in gymnastics, ball sports, relaxation training, various outdoor sports, dance, water sports, various martial arts, and more.  The student union organizes clubs, events, and other activities.

Scholarships & Funding

Housing options.

Housing is not guaranteed so students are encouraged to apply for housing as early as possible.  The school has three residences for international students which range from 424-750 euros per month for a single with a private bathroom.

Additional notes.

I planned a trip to Austria after reading about the Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology program at IMC Krems.  I was very impressed by the program and featured it as a program of the month.  I had high hopes for the school's offerings, and was not disappointed!  There are supports in place for international students from the time they enroll up until the time they graduate. The International Welcome Center helps students with the logistics around housing, banking, visas, and such when they arrive. The International Relations Office continues the support throughout the program. The school has strong relationships with industry leaders, which enriches the classroom experience and also leads to internship placements, which are required in all of the programs. Austria's Austrian Universities of Applied Sciences began in 1994 and now educate 50,000 students in the country.  The UAS system in Austria is different than others I have experienced thus far.  Like in other countries that have reputable UAS programs, there is a practical focus and an emphasis on providing students with the skills and knowledge they will need in the workforce.  In fact, the country-wide employment rate for graduates of UAS programs is 90%. Unlike UAS programs in other countries, almost all of the graduates go directly into master’s degree programs, and many graduates do continue on to study in Ph.D. programs.

Furthermore, the entry requirements are not lowered necessarily for UAS programs in Austria
