Why should I study here?

1977: Reform of Swedish higher education. Jönköping University College is set up as a state university college.Jönköping University is characterised by focused profiles, internationalisation, an entrepreneurial spirit and collaboration with the surrounding society.Jönköping University offers courses and study programmes taught in English at all three levels: Undergraduate, Master and Doctoral.

What are the admissions criteria?

Sweden uses a centralized admissions process for all higher education programs.  Applicants apply online to the programs they are interested in. No entrance tests are required, as the basic admission criteria are a high school diploma and English proficiency. In addition, programs may have their own requirements for eligibility. Applicants also need to include a photocopy of their passport. Another thing to note, students who are in their final year of high school can not apply until after they graduate, since they don't have a diploma.  Given that the application deadline for international students is January 15th, most students will not be able to apply for fall admission directly after high school. Also of note-no matter how many programs an applicant applies to, they will get only one offer.  Applicants are first evaluated for their first choice school.  If they meet the eligibility requirements they are admitted.  If not, they are evaluated for their second choice school, and so on.

What is student life like?

The modern campus with all four schools, the University Library and the Students' House is situated right in the centre of Jönköping, close to everything that the city has to offer. Jönköping is one of Sweden's ten largest cities and is also one of the most beautifully situated at the juncture of three sprawling lakes. Jönköping University's new sports centre will include a multifunction hall, an activity centre and a gym. The sports centre will be located next to the School of Health Sciences and is expected to be completed in November 2013. The centre together with the terrace and the bridge will link the north and south parts of the campus. The modern campus offers a variety of services, including the library, health care, career centre, computer labs, cafés and restaurants. The Jönköping Student Union is run by students, for students. The union safeguards the student's interests in many areas of student life and at the university. To guarantee an active student union, and to ensure student influence at Jönköping University, the university has decided that membership in Jönköping Student Union shall be mandatory for all students at the university. The membership fee varies and is determined by the form of study.
