Why should I study here?

The legal predecessor of our University was the Reformed Theological Academy of Budapest, founded in 1855 and granted University status by the Hungarian Parliament in 1990. In 1993 the General Assembly of the Reformed Church in Hungary took the decision to establish a university spanning a wide range of faculties, and this decision was approved later in the year on 21st September by the Parliament of the Republic of Hungary. Through the creation of Karoli Gaspar University, the Reformed Church in Hungary has fulfilled the aims of its forefathers. Our University, in the spirit of the universitas scientiarum, aims to raise the status of not solely the Church, but also the nation, through its educational, teaching and academic work.

What is student life like?

Besides Budapest and Nagykőrös where the two main campuses are located, Károli Gáspár University provides courses in neighboring countries: Targu Mures/Marosvásárhely and Ilieni/Ilyefalva (both in Romania), as well as in Berehove/Beregszász (Ukraine) and in Levice/Léva (Slovakia) in cooperation with local higher education institutions. The students of the University can take part in a wide range of amateur sports teams in futsal, basketball, handball, volleyball, and water polo. These teams play in amateur championships organized among other universities and colleges. The opportunity to join is open to everyone, even absolute beginners. Apart from sports activities, students have the opportunity to learn traditional Hungarian folk dance as well. The Student Union organizes and offers a wide range of cultural and professional programs for students. The Student Union encourages everyone to meet their professors and schoolmates outside the university as well, to make new friendships, and to establish new contacts.
