Why should I study here?

Linnaeus University was established in 2010 through a merger between Växjö University and the University of Kalmar. Studying at Linnaeus University means being in an environment enriched with intrepidity, curiosity, and innovation.

What are the admissions criteria?

Sweden uses a centralized admissions process for all higher education programs.  Applicants apply online to the programs they are interested in. No entrance tests are required, as the basic admission criteria are a high school diploma and English proficiency. In addition, programs may have their own requirements for eligibility. Applicants also need to include a photocopy of their passport.

Another thing to note, students who are in their final year of high school can not apply until after they graduate, since they don't have a diploma.  Given that the application deadline for international students is January 15th, most students will not be able to apply for fall admission directly after high school. Also of note-no matter how many programs an applicant applies to, they will get only one offer.  Applicants are first evaluated for their first choice school.  If they meet the eligibility requirements they are admitted.  If not, they are evaluated for their second choice school, and so on.

What is student life like?

Linnaeus University has two campuses, one in Växjö and one in Kalmar. Highly praised campus environments, positioning Linnaeus University as no 1 and no 2 in terms of campus buildings, campus environment, and nice-to-be places in the ISB (International Student Barometer) 2014. Since then, Linnaeus University also built brand new facilities in Kalmar. At Linnaeus University nature is just around the corner, adding to a high quality of life. Växjö was once declared "The greenest city in Europe" and Kalmar is a charming medieval city, located by the Baltic Sea. The student union at Linnaeus University – Linnaeus Union – works to ensure that you receive the best possible education, but also aims to offer enjoyable activities besides your studies. There are a number of student organizations and clubs at the university that offer a wide range of leisure activities for students.
