Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg (OVGU) is a public university located in Magdeburg, Germany. It was founded in 1993 and is one of the youngest universities in Germany. The university has over 13,000 students enrolled in nine faculties.
OVGU is known for its strong focus on research and its close ties to industry. The university is home to a number of research institutes, including the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht, the Max-Planck-Institut für Dynamik komplexer technischer Systeme, and the Fraunhofer-Institut für Fabrikbetrieb und -automatisierung.
OVGU is also an internationally oriented university. The university has over 200 partner universities worldwide, and students have the opportunity to study abroad for one or two semesters. The university also offers a number of English-language programs for international students.

Student Life
The International Study Program offers a mentoring program that is specifically tailored to our students and their needs. Mentors provide new students with help for their transition into their university studies and life in Germany, including advice and assistance upon arrival.Â
Housing
The easiest way to get accommodation is a room in a dormitory on campus. They are provided by the "Studentenwerk". Student apartments are full/partly or even un-furnished. They have a size of about 15 square meters. The rent for an apartment ranges from 250 € to 350 € according to the room type and furniture. Due to a surplus of apartments in the housing market, there are additionally a variety of affordable off-campus housing options available to students. Overall, the cost of living in Magdeburg is very affordable.

The scholarship amounts to 300 per month. The scholarship is granted irrespective of income and parental contributions and is not offset against any BAföG payments.
