Why should I study here?

RTU is a modern, internationally recognized university. It is the only polytechnic university in Latvia and the largest university in the country; it educates and trains almost 15,000 students.RTU is focused on becoming a third-generation university that not only provides high quality education, but also conducts advanced research and ensures innovation and technology transfer, practically implementing scientific discoveries. In the nine faculties of RTU, it is possible to obtain a high-quality education not only in engineering, but also in social sciences and humanities.Study programs implemented by RTU have been positively evaluated by international experts and are officially accredited. RTU is constantly developing its infrastructure by constructing a campus on Ķīpsala Island. On completion, the campus will be the most advanced engineering study centre in the Baltic Region.

What are the admissions criteria?

Applications are accepted from January 15th-July 1st.  Applications include a passport copy, a motivational letter, and legalized diplomas or transcripts. If English is not your native language, proof of English proficiency is required.   Admission decisions are based on grades, math courses, and motivation letter, and conditional acceptance are provided within a month.

What is student life like?

Along with intensive study and research work, RTU provides students with the opportunity to get involved in an entire range of extra-curricular activities. Students can approve themselves in different artistic amateur groups, in sports activities, as well as working in student self-governments and parliament. At RTU, sports activities are compulsory for all first-year students, and each student can select the most attractive activity from a wide range of sports: swimming, boxing, track and field athletics, movement therapy, wrestling, artistic gymnastics, aerobics, basketball, volleyball, or indoor football.

Scholarships & Funding

Housing options.

Housing in the student residences ranges from 70 euros per month for a triple, 124-153 euros per month for a double, and 225-295 euros per month for a single. Housing is not guaranteed, but will almost certainly be granted if you register on time.  The student residences are on campus and well maintained.  Usually, 3-4 rooms share a bathroom and kitchen area.
