In the surroundings of Mittweida, you can visit the old and completely renovated Kriebstein Castle (dating from the Middle Ages), the old Castle Park in Lichtenwalde and its many fountains, the new family park "Sonnenlandpark", or the former castle of the Saxon king "Augustusburg" with its many museums inside. With their many cultural points of interest and good shopping facilities, the large cities of Chemnitz, Dresden, and Leipzig, as well as the German capital, Berlin, are quickly and easily reached by train.
