Why should I study here?

Since it attracts students and researchers from every part of Switzerland and from all over the world, it has shaped life in the bilingual city of Fribourg since it was founded in 1889.The University of Fribourg is a place where learning, research, employment, and events all happen at the same time. Its innovative force makes it an important mover in the commercial and cultural life of the region.

What are the admissions criteria?

Candidates with a foreign education must hold an upper secondary school-leaving certificate based on a formal general education.

What is student life like?

You won’t find a campus in Fribourg: the town itself is the campus! With 10,000 students among a total of 40,000 inhabitants, living in the town is shaped by the University like nowhere else. This unique combination of medieval heritage and vibrant student life lends it an incomparable charm. The Sports Center offers all members of the University community a diverse sports program. The choice covers over 60 types of sports, including weekly lessons, weekends, and week camps. The offer serves not only as a balance to the studies but also as a chance to discover a so-called lifetime sport. At the beginning of the academic year, all newly beginning students receive by letter a detailed sports program. Enrolling in particular courses happens online. During the semester, the Sports Center office is open twice a week.

Scholarships & Funding

We can provide financial support in the form of study subsidies for bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. students (doctorate). This financial support from the University of Fribourg is not subject to reimbursement. The international students who had to prove, during their entrance to Switzerland, that they had sufficient financial means, may apply for financial aid starting from the third semester at the University of Fribourg.
