Why should I study here?

VAMK, University of Applied Sciences, started its operation as a temporary polytechnic on August 1st, 1996 and was based on five institutions: Vaasa Institute of Technology, Vaasa Commercial College, Vaasa College of Hotel and Restaurant Services, Vaasa College of Health Care, and Vaasa College of Household and Social Services.

What are the admissions criteria?

Students apply using the joint application form on studyinfo.fi between January 10th and January 25th.  Since a high school diploma is technically needed to apply, students who are in their final year of high school should check with the school to see if they could be considered for discretionary admission (which basically means that the school allows you to apply for provisional consideration).  Applicants from non-anglophone countries need to submit English proficiency test scores and all applicants need to include a photocopy of their passport.

Entrance exams for Finnish UAS programs are held in April of each year.  There are several locations worldwide for the entrance exams, though some programs/schools require that the exam is taken in Finland.  Some programs allow SAT scores to substitute for the entrance exam.

What is student life like?

Our well-equipped learning environment consists of two campuses located within walking distance of each other. The historically important and newly renovated buildings of the City Campus provide an inspiring atmosphere for learning, whereas the Palosaari Campus is nestled in an attractive setting by the sea.

Vaasa is said to be the sunniest city in Finland. The scenery constantly changes along with the four seasons, allowing all forms of recreation throughout the year: boating and archipelago cruises in summer, skiing, and indoor sports in winter.  In Vaasan VAMK, University of Applied Sciences, there is a student union arranged by law. The duties of the student union are taken care of by the Student Union of VAMK, VAMOK, a service and benefit surveillance organization with about 1,700 student members.
