Hamburg University of Applied Sciences
Description
From the school: Hamburg is Germany’s second largest city (1.8 million inhabitants) and offers an excellent quality of life and an international flair. Hamburg is ranked in the TOP 20 most liveable cities in the world, alongside Vancouver, Melbourne, and Sydney (The Economist) and is in 6th place in the TOP 10 most fun cities worldwide (GoEuro). We are sure you will love it too. The international port in Hamburg was founded over a thousand years ago, turning the city into a centre of trade and a gateway to Europe. Over 250,000 people from 185 nations live and work in Hamburg, making it an international and cosmopolitan place. As an international port city, everyone speaks English, so it is very easy to live here and learn German as you go. The different cultures are visible in the restaurants and markets and in the cultural festivals that take place during the year.
Student Life
From the school: Small groups, academic support, a buddy program, and a mentoring system ensure that our students feel at home at our university. 2,000 international students from all around the world underline the international character of the university.
Housing
Finding accommodation in Hamburg is difficult. We, therefore, recommend that you start looking for a place to live in good time. If you have friends or relatives in Hamburg, ask them to help. Most of the halls of residence in Hamburg are run by Studierendenwerk Hamburg and offer affordable accommodation for students. Generally, students have their own room in an apartment which they share with other students—the bathroom and kitchen are shared. The monthly rent for a room in the hall starts at roughly 220 euros [including heating, water, and electricity].
