Description
The University of Iceland was founded on 17 June 1911, on the centenary of 19th-century Icelandic statesman Jón Sigurðsson, usually referred to as president. The University was located in the Parliament House at Austurvöllur for the first 29 years.
Student Life
The University of Iceland is aware that exercise is important for all students, and therefore, two gymnasiums in the campus area are open to all university students and staff for a modest fee.
The University Runners Club; The University of Iceland Choir; The Chamber Music Club; Ármann Runners Club.
Housing
The student housing office has a very limited number of housing options to offer students, so students should be prepared to pursue other options. Icelandic Student Services does help connect students to rental providers. Single rooms with a shared kitchen and common area usually cost around 500 euros per month.
