There are study associations and student associations at VU. Study associations are connected to a student's department of study and offer academic and social opportunities. Student associations offer various clubs around sports, the arts, religion, Model UN, and international relations. For under 30 euros a month, students can join the VU Sports Centre. In addition to fitness facilities, classes are held for toning, aerobics, Zumba, pilates, yoga, boxing, kickboxing, ice skating, spinning, and sports (badminton, basketball, tennis, and volleyball). They are also home to 26 sports clubs.
The international office provides housing for international students for up to one year, but it is not guaranteed. Generally, if students apply by the deadlines given, they will receive a housing offer. Rooms are all singles with shared or private baths and range from 350-750 euros per month. Housing is located less than 5 minutes from campus by bike.
Unlike many European schools that have buildings throughout the city, all of the buildings for VU are situated together in a square in southern Amsterdam. The outdoor courtyard between the buildings is a popular place for students to gather when the weather is nice and is frequented by food trucks.
