Many companies feel the need, from time to time, to get an outside perspective on their operations and strategy. In addition, they may have a temporary requirement for someone with special training and experience they cannot retain permanently.
Consultants usually have degrees in business administration, economics, or finance. It is possible to enter the profession and gain valuable experience with a bachelor's degree, but advanced qualifications and MBAs in particular are preferred. Other types of degrees that are commonly found in the consulting profession include psychology, marketing, and technical qualifications.
Consultants are excellent at verbal and written communication. It is usually not enough to give good advice; clients will want to know that the recommendations they receive are sound and based on the best data available.
