The Atlantic Technological University Sligo offers a unique Bachelor of Arts (Honours) program in Performing Arts, combining the disciplines of acting and theatre design. This program is particularly attractive for students who are unsure of whether they want to focus on acting or the technical aspects of theatre production.

Course Structure:
- Year 1: Provides a broad foundation in all areas of performing arts, including acting, theatre design, movement, voice, and stagecraft.
- Year 2: Students choose to specialize in either Acting or Theatre Design.
- Acting: Focuses on developing acting skills through practical workshops, voice and movement training, and character development. Students gain experience through performances in the university’s Black Box Theatre.
- Theatre Design: Develops design skills for theatre, film, and television through classes, workshops, and masterclasses led by industry professionals. Students have access to the Abbey Theatre in Dublin for rehearsals, technical placements, and work experience.
- Year 3: Students further refine their chosen specialization and participate in short work placements in the professional theatre or film industry.
Graduates gain the skills and experience to pursue careers in a variety of fields within the performing arts industry, including:
- Acting (Theatre, Film, Television)
- Theatre Design (Set Design, Costume Design, Lighting Design)

- Stage Management
- Directing

Notes
Tuition Fee – the Department of Education pays tuition fees for all full-time students who are citizens of a Member State of the EU and who meet the residency requirements. Most full-time undergraduate students will be covered by the Free Fees Initiative scheme for their tuition fee. Students from Northern Ireland or Great Britain do not have to pay tuition fees to study in the Republic of Ireland. All students are liable for the Student Contribution fee: €3,000. Application deadline for EU students is February 1.
Admissions Requirements
High School Diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.0 plus: SAT score of 1000+ (1800 prior to 2016) or ACT composite score of 22 and above or 2-3 Advanced Placement Examinations in relevant subjects with grades 3 and above OR 2-3 SAT subject tests in relevant subjects with a minimum score of 600 in each. Vetting Requirement: All places are offered on this programme subject to satisfactory Garda vetting clearance.
