The MA in Global Gallery Studies at University College Cork is a one-year full-time or two-year part-time taught masters (NFQ, Level 9) which aims to prepare postgraduates for various careers in the gallery sector and other fine art institutions in Ireland and internationally. Directed by History of Art in association with The Glucksman (UCC’s award winning on campus gallery) and Digital Arts and Humanities, UCC, the programme will offer an innovative blend of theory and real-world practice comprised of the history, theories and contemporary practices of the gallery in a global context.Students will engage with various theoretical modules including an introduction to global gallery studies, art history for curators and digital arts and humanities, as well as practice-based modules including cutting-edge learning experiences with The Glucksman, fieldwork in international galleries and a project-led internship with a prominent fine art gallery in Ireland or internationally. Students will receive a scholarship to cover select international fieldwork travel expenses (this scholarship will cover select travel expenses incurred during the ‘Global Galleries fieldwork’ module only).Through the programme postgraduates from various backgrounds will gain state-of-the-art critical and practical skills which are prized by the sector as well as a comprehensive understanding of 21st-century gallery practices across diverse geographical borders and cultural traditions.
