Copenhagen
About the City
The capital, Copenhagen, is one of the world’s most liveable cities and regularly comes top in rankings of the best places to live. Located in the extreme east of the country, Copenhagen looks out towards Sweden. The city has a population of 1.2 million people, of which 94,000 are students.
There is a mix of architectural styles, with buildings of ultra-modern designs, while there are also older buildings, such as the colorful townhouses lining the Nyhavn waterfront. There are, of course, a whole host of world-class museums to explore! If your budget can stretch to it, then it is worth sampling some of the world-renowned restaurants.
Although it is a big city, it has a small-town feel and is an extremely safe place to live. Copenhagen is a well-known cycling ‘Mecca’ and quite possibly the cycling capital of the world. In fact, there are more bicycles than people in Copenhagen! The city is also well served for traveling further afield. Malmo, Sweden, is only a short train ride away.
Meanwhile, Stockholm (Sweden) can also be reached by train in just a few hours. Copenhagen’s airport is also the biggest in the whole of Scandinavia, boasting a dense flight network.
