Profile
The research-oriented Master of Advanced Anglophone Studies combines the subjects English Studies, American Studies and New English Literatures. It offers the possibility to approach Anglophone literatures and cultures with close attention and with regard to the respective historical and social contexts. A practicum or study stay in an English-speaking country is a part of this course of studies. The course Advanced Anglophone Studies is very diverse and works with a broad definition of ‘text’ (including film and new media) and a wide range of methodological approaches. Political and cultural events and developments are examined, and literature is treated as a historical phenomenon whose aesthetic forms evaluate the cultural conditions they were created in.Possible topics of the seminars could be: Black and Asian cultures in Great Britain and the United States of America; postcolonial literatures of the Caribbean, Africa and India; transatlantic relations; American documentary film and its functions; but also such topics as Shakespeare, Milton or Jane Austen. The course offer is complemented with courses on presentation skills, e.g. website development
