Profile
The proposed specialty Cyber-physical systems (CPS) will be the first specialty in the second-cycle studies at the Faculty of Automatic Control and Robotics at the EAIiIB Faculty, where education will be entirely conducted in English. The choice of English as a language of instruction is a response to the growing interest in studying automation and computer science at AGH from foreigners. At the same time, it will allow Polish students to improve their competence in the field of fluent English, which should have a positive impact on the perception of our graduates in the labor market and their potential further development, eg in European projects.A comprehensive explanation of the need and legitimacy of the urgent development and implementation of university courses in cyber-physical systems, at first and second level, can be found in the report A 21st Century Cyber-Physical Systems Education published by The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, Medicine . This report is all the more valuable because it was created taking into account both the position of the representatives of the university and the opinions of industry experts presented to the commissions as part of the workshops organized by it. The report refers to a clearly notable shortage of engineering staff capable of developing and operating cyber-physical systems and the expected significant increase in the demand for employees with such a profile of education in the near future. The report also clearly indicates the insufficiency of knowledge and skills acquired by graduates of existing, traditional engineering majors and the resulting need to develop new programs, taking into account the multidisciplinary specificity of cyber-physical systems. The scope of the modules in the proposed course plan were selected to cover all the most important aspects of cyber-physical systems, in which the physical world, computing techniques, control methods and information transfer technologies are intertwined. The content covered in the specialties includes systems with a high degree of integration both at a low level (embedded systems, internet of things) as well as high (process automation, data management). An important part of the program are also the issues of data analysis and machine learning as well as optimization and computational methods which, combined with advanced, shaped by the student using the elective blocks, methods of control theory give him a set of tools for the implementation of automation tasks.Graduates of the Cyber-physical Systems specialization will have extensive knowledge in the field of data analysis methods, machine learning, construction and integration of embedded systems, the Internet of Things as well as computational methods, advanced control theory and methods of data management. In particular, a strong emphasis will be put on the analysis and integration of the algorithmic solutions used, as well as the work methodology based on scientific publications. Graduates will be characterized by creativity in finding solutions to problems for which choosing the best approach is not obvious and requires the comparison and comparison of the results of alternative solutions.
