The emergence of new technology – such as smart phones, social networking, nanotechnology, robotics, sustainable energy, and disability and technology – opens up both opportunities and threats to modern societies and economies. Citizens, governments, businesses and universities face great challenges when trying to take advantage of the seemingly infinite opportunities of scientific and technological innovations, not least because of the unintended consequences that may accompany them.During the second semester of the programme, you will select an area of specialisation. You will attend the corresponding university to follow an introductory course on your specialisation topic and write your master’s thesis there.List of Specializations:Aalborg University-Innovation Systems, Social and Ecological ChangeAlpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt-Governance, Innovation and SustainabilityAutonomus University of Madrid-Economics and Management of InnovationLund University-Sustainability Transitions and The Geography of InnovationMaastricht University-Science and Public PolicyNicolaus Copernicus University-The Theory and Practice of Risk SocietyNKUA/NTUA, Athens-Philosophy and History of Science and Technology-Science, Technology and Sustainability: North-South Comparisons-Enabling and Disabling Dimensions of Technological Change-Law, Science and TechnologyTallinn University of Technology-Innovation Policy and Small StatesUniversity of Lisbon, Portugal-Water management and water uses: public participation, stakeholders’ involvement and the role of scienceUniversité catholique de Louvain-Ethical and philosophical stakes of sciences in societiesUniversity Notre-Dame de la Paix-Sociological and organizational aspects of ICT-Historical, philosophical, ethical and governance aspects of ICT and emerging technologies-Attention economy and grey ecologyUniversity of Oslo-Science and Technology in Politics and Society-Innovation and Global ChallengesUniversity of Strasbourg-Environmental Sciences & Management Practices in the AnthropoceneUniversity of Trento-Science and Environment in Society; Science and Environmental Communication
