In Anglophone Literary Studies, the curriculum has the following research-based priorities: British, American and African literature and culture; postcolonial and diaspora studies; ecocriticsm; gender studies; literature and media. Research-based studies in English Linguistics, in turn, extend to the following main areas: language, cognition and culture; varieties of English in their cultural setting; corpus linguistics.The programme is designed to enable students to work independently toward research goals, to present their results coherently and effectively, and to critically evaluate scholarly contributions from other authors. After the successful completion of the master’s degree, students have the option to pursue a doctorate, for example, within the International doctoral programme Cultural Encounters or the International Graduate School of African Studies at the University of Bayreuth.

Admissions Requirements
Applicants should have a bachelor degree with a major in English/American Studies or in a field related to English/American Studies. Applicants from non-anglophone countries should provide proof of English proficiency. Application deadline for non EU students is May 1 and November 1.
