Profile
The specialisation Culture and Politics of the master’s in International Relations at Leiden University encourages critical perspectives on complexities of culture as an inextricable part of global politics. You will join a master’s programme which considers the cultural dynamics of power, dominance, and resistance. As part of the programme you will study the relationship between political concepts and a large variety of cultural forms. The master’s degree in International Relations also examines the transnational production, distribution, and consumption of culture, problematising “national” cultural and “soft power” policies. In addition, you will address phenomena such as emotion, subliminal representation, and transnational flow of cultural products and ideas in depth. The one-year International Relations master specialisations offer an attractive mix of theoretical knowledge with practical experience.
