Profile
In contrast to philologies, linguistics, the modern form of linguistics, does not focus on a single language, but rather examines the function and structure of all human languages, their differences and similarities. Linguists document languages around the world (field research), carry out psychological experiments (psycholinguistics), compare languages (language typology) and develop formal models (grammar theory and computational linguistics) for a comprehensive understanding of human language ability.
