Profile
The MESC+ Master’s Course is a 2-year programme in Materials Science and Electrochemistry, fully taught in English, involving 5 Universities in 4 European countries (France, Poland, Slovenia and Spain), 2 Universities in USA and Australia, a European Research Institute (ALISTORE), the French Network on Energy Storage (RS2E), the Slovenian National Institute of Chemistry (NIC) and a leading Research Center in Spain (CIC Energigune). It is run by a number of world-renowned members of Research Laboratories in the field of energy-related materials who work closely together through several European and trans-European projects. The Universities offering MESC Master’s Course are UPJV AMIENS (France), WUT WARSAW (Poland), UPS TOULOUSE (France), EHU/UPV BILBAO (Spain) and UL LJUBLJANA (Slovenia). DREXEL Univ. (Philadelphia, USA) and DEAKIN Univ. (Geelong, Australia) participate actively in the implementation of MESC + activities as Associated Partners. The Master’s Course is composed of 3 semesters of classes plus a fourth semester in a Research Laboratory in Europe, USA or Australia for the 6-month Master’s Thesis. Students (25-30 per intake) can study in up to 4 different countries within 2 years depending on their mobility choices. S1 is spent in Poland (WUT) for the whole class which then moves to France for S2 (UPS). S3 is spent either in Spain (Bilbao) or Slovenia (Ljubljana) or France (Amiens) before the Master Thesis (30 associated Labs. in Universities and Companies including BOSCH, UMICORE, RENAULT, TOTAL, SOLVAY, SAFT, EDF, SOLVIONIC). Core courses include the fundamentals of electrochemistry, materials science, solid state chemistry and energy storage, materials technology and processing, energy conversion, conducting polymers, synthesis of nano-materials. During S3, students choose specialised units more focused on engineering and prototyping of systems, to gain deeper knowledge into areas where the participating universities and research centers have world-class expertise. The Master’s Course ensures intensive and innovative training for International and European students. Successful students graduate with a Joint Diploma and national Master’s degrees awarded by the Universities of the Consortium and recognised in each of the countries visited. The admission criteria for this Course are highly competitive. Candidates apply for EMJMD or Industrial scholarships from the MESC+ partners. Candidates should possess a Bachelor of Sciences, preferably in the fields of physical chemistry, materials science or electrochemistry. Students’ academic records will be rigorously scrutinised and applicants will be asked to explain their goals and interests in coming to Europe
