Profile
For the on-campus elective curriculum, the programme includes in-depth examination of solid-state physics and techniques for processing and characterising nanomaterials, advanced electronic and photonic devices, applications of nanotechnology, modern techniques for manipulating nanometric objects, integrated microelectronic systems, and computer-aided nanodesign. For the second elective curriculum, the first semester takes place at the Politecnico di Torino, and is devoted to in-depth examination of the physics of solid-state and nanomaterials and techniques for processing and characterising nanomaterials. The second semester is held in Grenoble and is dedicated to nanostructures, nano-electronics and electronic microsystems, while the third semester takes place in Lausanne and concentrates on analog microcircuits and micro/nanosystems. The final thesis work is carried out at the Politecnico or at external public or private institutions – national or international – with which collaborations have been established. For students from the first orientation interested in undertaking part of their activities abroad, there are agreements with universities in other countries to follow periods of study and/or undertake the thesis work in collaboration with local referents. In some cases there will be paths to obtain a double degree. The MSc graduate designs, develops and uses micro/nanodevices and related technologies and is an ¿engineer of innovation¿, who can manage and design highly scientific and innovative products and processes in all areas of industrial and applied research based on micro/nanotechnologies. Along with providing a solid grounding in the most advanced aspects of electronic engineering, this degree programme offers a coherent set of specific skills in material physics aimed at optimising the materials and processes used to design all types of micro/nanodevices.
