Do you have strong mathematical and statistical skills and do you want to put them to use in the world of finance? Are you looking forward to tackle global issues such as the stability of the financial system and be involved in investment decisions with regard to risk management and asset allocation? The Quantitative Finance programme covers all main areas in finance and focuses on the econometric and quantitative skills needed to support important financial decision-making processes.Our experienced faculty members, who regularly publish their research in major international journals while also advising the financial sector, are enthusiastic teachers in this highly interactive programme. Their classes are based on the latest research insights and focus on the econometric and quantitative skills to solve pressing issues that occur in the world of finance, especially in areas like portfolio and risk management.The master’s specialisation consists of seven core courses, a seminar course Financial Case Studies and a master’s thesis distributed over 5 blocks of 8 weeks each.The core courses help students to get acquainted with a wide range of topics that are essential for econometrics and finance, such as Asset Pricing, Financial Derivatives, Quantitative Risk Management, and Portfolio Management. Many core courses include empirical assignments with the aim of developing the necessary skills for applying the econometric techniques in practice.During the seminar Financial Case Studies you will work in a small team to conduct an applied research project under supervision of a staff member. The topics for these research projects are provided by the financial industry. The last 2 blocks of the programme are devoted to the master’s thesis, which can be theoretically oriented or practically oriented. Practically oriented theses are usually combined with an internship or traineeship. The thesis is written individually under close supervision by one of the staff members of the Econometric Institute.

Admissions Requirements
A bachelor's degree in the field of Econometrics and Operations Research, Economics and Mathematics, Quantitative Economics, Mathematics, Statistics or Industrial Engineering. Applicants with a degree in Economics, Business Economics or Business Administration need to have a quantitative specialisation (such as a minor or major in Econometrics, Operations Research or Decision Analysis) in order to apply. Your bachelor's degree needs to consist of a solid background in advanced mathematics, applied mathematics like operations research and programming, applied statistics, econometrics and time-series analysis.
