Profile
Spatial Designs and Society engages with consumption, designed places and design processes from a social science perspective and focuses on relationships between people, objects and places paying particular attention to peoples’ diverse practical and symbolic relationships to design and designed sites. This nexus is unfolded in relation to mobility, consumption and experiences in both production (design processes) and consumption (the purchase and use of things and places). This master programme cuts across traditional academic boundaries within the social sciences (sociology, anthropology and social geography) at the same time as integrating design science and practical media studies and technical know-how. You examine design and design processes in situ and in actu, i.e. the places where they are used and designed. The programme provides a unique spatial understanding of design and a unique design perspective on the spatial organization of society. You systematically learn to combine depth analysis with practical and creative usability, and get the skills to make social scientific analyses of design processes and understand how consumption design, and designed sites, are experienced and used by humans.
