Profile
The educational master’s degree in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering has the training objective of preparing graduate students who are experts in the design and construction of the supporting structures of civil works and in the analysis of the related geotechnical problems. The fields of intervention of the graduate are many. Among these we can list: the residential building and for services, buildings and industrial plants, the works of art of road and railway infrastructures (bridges, viaducts, tunnels, raised), hydraulic works (dams and tanks), large sports facilities, both coastal and offshore marine structures, shallow and deep foundations, support works, embankments in loose materials, underground constructions. The importance of the full guarantee of safety for the aforementioned works, the widespread diffusion of many of them, as well as the relevance and the ever increasing attention to the seismic problem, with the related needs of detailed forecasting of the risk for the purposes of the project, of the consolidation and repair of the existing building stock (dilapidated building, historical centers), create for the graduate graduate a very wide and articulated field of intervention. In the courses, therefore, the scientific bases and the techniques to face the problems of the sector will be provided. The student will have the possibility to choose whether to specialize in a sectorial figure with a high level of knowledge, or to acquire a broader spectrum of skills useful for dealing with the demands of the world of work with sufficient flexibility. The training offer was essentially divided into 9 cfu modules. The training course includes seven courses, distributed between the two years, bound to a specific SSD among those characterizing the CdLM (Science and Construction Technique, Geotechnics). Three of these are mandatory, in two cases a choice between two courses of the same SSD is possible, in the remaining two the choice is free within the educational offer of the same SSD. Between the first and the second year the student, through the use of the credits for curricular and autonomous choice activities, will have the possibility to choose whether to specialize in a high-level sectoral figure, or acquire a more broad spectrum of skills useful for dealing with the demands of the world of work with sufficient flexibility. The didactic regulation of the course of study and the formative offer will therefore be such as to allow, for the students who want it, to follow training courses in which there is an adequate amount of credits in related and supplementary sectors that are not already characterized. In any case, the specific educational objectives are aimed at the formation of a complete cultural and professional figure, aimed at the world of work and characterized by a solid basic culture, a good culture in fundamental application subjects and a more in-depth culture in specific application and professional sectors of Civil Engineering. The graduate will be a conscious and critical professional figure, equipped with the necessary theoretical-scientific baggage, qualified to set up, carry out and manage even complex design activities, with a marked capacity for design and operational / management proposals.
