Unleash your creativity and bring characters to life with the University of Salford’s BA (Hons) in Costume Design. This three-year, full-time program equips you with the skills and knowledge to become a versatile costume designer for theatre, film, television, and other performance mediums.
Craft and Design Expertise: Develop a strong foundation in costume design principles, including historical costume study, pattern cutting, garment construction, textile manipulation, and embellishment techniques. Master industry-standard practices for creating high-quality and visually compelling costumes.
Concept Development and Storytelling: Hone your ability to translate scripts, character descriptions, and directorial visions into unique and effective costume designs. Learn to use costumes to enhance storytelling, character development, and audience engagement.
Technical Skills and Software: Gain proficiency in technical skills like draping, tailoring, and millinery. Learn to utilize industry-standard design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop Illustrator) for creating costume sketches and technical drawings.

Tuition fee for UK students is €10,800.
Admissions Requirements
High School Diploma with a combined score of SAT I of at least 1260 with an individual minimum score in mathematics of 570 /800 and an individual minimum score of 610/800 in the evidence-based reading and writing section; or ACT with a score of at least 26; or grade 3, 3, 4 in three Advanced Placement Tests (APs) in specified subjects; or SAT II in three specified subjects at 575 or better (we will accept tests interchangeably as long as in total three subject areas are covered).
If you do not meet the entry requirements, you could take the International Foundation Year to gain entry onto this degree.
To gain a place on this Costume Design degree, you’ll have to submit a personal statement. As part of your application, we will need to see a portfolio of work to provide opportunity for you to share your creative practice with us.
