English Speaking Cultures
Profile
The BA degree program English-Speaking Cultures can be studied as a major or a minor with a focus on either general professional or teacher-training graduation. The subject English-Speaking Cultures includes four categories: structure, varieties and use of the English language (linguistics), English literature (literary studies), Cultural History of the English- Speaking World (cultural studies), and General Studies. Student teachers also study Professionalisierungsmodule (Basis- und Aufbaumodul): Theory and Practice in Second-Language Education. In contrast to comparable degree programs at other universities, the Bremen BA in English-Speaking Cultures is not focused on a particular culture (e.g. Great Britain or the USA), but rather on the English-speaking world as a whole – including regions and institutions where English is used as a means of internal communication.
