The BA in Mathematics and Education is a four-year, full-time honors degree program that incorporates a teacher training qualification and opportunities for practical teaching experience throughout the four years of its duration. Graduates of the program will be qualified mathematicians and will be recognized by the Teaching Council of Ireland as qualified post-primary teachers of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.
The program is jointly run by the School of Mathematics, Statistics, and Applied Mathematics and the School of Education of NUI Galway. It has been created as a response to the growing need for excellent Mathematics teachers in Irish post-primary schools as well as a general need for qualified mathematicians.
Notes
Both EU/EEA and non-EU/EEA citizens have to pay a student contribution fee of maximum €3,000 year for student services. Eligibility for Free Fees Initiative is available for EU students. Students may apply to SUSI for a grant towards their student contribution or tuition fees. Students must satisfy Garda/Police vetting requirements. Additional Requirements: Mathematics
Application deadline for EU students is February 1.
Admissions Requirements
High School Diploma with a minimum GPA of 3.3/4 Unweighted. Minimum SAT of 1190 (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 610, Math 570) or an ACT of 24 to gain entry. If available, Advanced Placement Tests - Grade 3 or above in at least two tests (preferably three tests). Students will also need to submit a personal statement and two references to support their application.
