Product Design Engineering
Profile
The study program is unique in Romania and it answers to a real need identified on the labour market, of skilled professionals in the conception, design, in virtual and real prototyping and in testing the functionality of multifunctional products, so to meet the present needs of social development. Therefore, the curriculum includes fundamental engineering disciplines and product design specific disciplines:   First year covers basic subjects, phenomena and processes needed to understand specific areas such as: Mathematics (Mathematical analysis, Linear algebra and analytical geometry, Special mathematics), Chemistry, Physics, Computer programming and programming languages, Descriptive geometry and Technical drawing. In the first year there are also included general skills training subjects (Foreign languages, Sports). The first technical culture subjects included in this year curriculum refers to Materials science and engineering and Mechanics.Second year is dedicated to building the foundations of technical culture of future engineers by subjects like: Mechanisms, Machine elements, Computer-Aided Graphics, Strength of materials, Electrotechnics and electronics, Fluid mechanics, Numerical methods, Manufacturing technologies, Tolerances. The first part of practical work is scheduled this year, allowing the direct contact of students with potential future jobs.Third year subjects continue with technical culture, gradually adapted to the profile of the study program through specific subjects, such as: Sustainable development, Thermotechnics, Conceptual design, Special materials, Product design specifications, Colour in product design, Recycling technologies, Form-giving in design, Creativity and invention, Actuation, command and control of mechanical systems, Aesthetics and ergonomics. Practical work at industrial partners is scheduled in this year of study, as well.Fourth-year includes specific subjects, necessary in the future graduate’s training, engaged in sustainable products development: Shape computer aided modelling, Embodiment and detail design, Modelling and simulation of mechanical systems, Finite elements analysis, Virtual prototyping, Renewable energy systems, Products life-cycle analysis, Products quality management. Subjects like Marketing, Project Management, Intellectual property, which are scheduled this year, offer concepts underlying the development of engineer-entrepreneur. In the second part of the second semester, students are involved in drafting the Diploma Project.
