Profile
Embark on a unique intellectual journey by exploring the intersection of religion and philosophy with Cardiff University’s BA Honours in Religious Studies and Philosophy. This three-year, full-time program equips you with a comprehensive understanding of both disciplines, fostering critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and communication skills while delving into fundamental questions of existence, meaning, and the human condition.
Key Features:
- Dual Expertise: Gain a strong foundation in both core religious studies concepts (histories, beliefs, practices of major world religions, theological frameworks) and core philosophical principles (ethics, epistemology, metaphysics, logic). This unique combination equips you to analyze religious and philosophical questions from diverse perspectives.
- Interdisciplinary Approach: Throughout the program, explore the historical and philosophical foundations of religious thought, examining the connections between religious beliefs and philosophical concepts. Analyze how philosophical arguments influence religious thought and vice versa.
- Diverse Coursework: Delve deeper into specific areas of interest through optional modules in later years. Focus on specific religious traditions (e.g., philosophy of religion in Asian traditions) or philosophical branches (e.g., ethics and religious practice), explore the intersection of religion and specific philosophical areas (e.g., bioethics, environmental philosophy), or delve into specialized areas like philosophy of religion or religious ethics.
- Preparation for Diverse Careers: Develop a versatile skillset applicable to diverse fields, including:
- Education (teaching humanities or social sciences)
- Non-profit and advocacy organizations with a religious or philosophical dimension (e.g., interfaith dialogue, bioethics)
- Journalism and media (covering cultural and ethical issues)
- Law (understanding ethical and religious considerations in legal contexts)
- Religious education (with further studies and professional qualifications)
- Further studies in religious studies, philosophy, or related fields (e.g., cultural studies, ethics, theology)
This program is ideal for students with an intellectual curiosity about the world, a passion for exploring fundamental questions, and an interest in understanding the connections between religious traditions and philosophical thought.
