Profile
The Middle Eastern and Mediterranean Undergraduate College of Menton focuses on political, economic, and social issues in Mediterranean countries, the Middle East, and the Gulf. The campus’ multidisciplinary and fundamental teaching method consists of courses in Social Science (economics, law, history, sociology), and courses specialized in the zone of the College’s interest (Political Economy of the Middle East, Geopolitics of the Middle East, History of the Arab-Islamic Civilization) in three languages (French, Arabic, and English), as well as language classes (English, Arabic, and French as a second language, with the possibility for non-beginners to start Arabic and French). The campus of Menton brings together international students from Europe, the Maghreb, the Middle East, and the Gulf, as well as from the United States and Asia. It offers a curriculum in French and a complete curriculum in English, underpinned by the expertise of Sciences Po professors and researchers specialized in the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean zone, prestigious lecturers, and guest professors. Classes are complemented by extracurricular collective projects (Arabic publications, field trips in the Middle East, Spring School_). Located along the Mediterranean Sea, Menton College provides international students with an ideal setting and exceptional living conditions, as well as personalized services and follow-up rendered possible by the small number of students on campus.
Notes
Students must learn Arabic. The student body at each of the campus is made up of 1/3 students from France, 1/3 students from the region of focus (for instance, Asian students on the Le Havre campus, Middle Eastern students on the Menton campus), and 1/3 students from elsewhere in the world. Courses include small group seminars of 15-20 students which provide great discussion opportunities with perspectives from around the globe. Students also take 6 hours of language a week and class size is smaller for these courses (5-15). The third year is spent abroad at a partner university in the region of focus.
