Sociology studies the interaction of people within social groups like families, schools, and companies and how this shapes their behaviors and life chances. It explores questions such as: why do migrants develop their cultural identities in different ways? How is privacy changing with the rise of digital technologies? How does a child’s family of origin shape their chances of educational success and future jobs? Do state rules and regulations represent and protect elite power? Sociology is foremost among the social sciences in its understanding of social change.
Sociology: Is this course for you? If you want to understand the social changes taking place in the world today, and you are curious about people and society, then sociology is for you. You will also gain the ability to understand current issues and to present and communicate information and thoughts coherently. In addition, you will learn invaluable analytical, communication, research, and presentation skills – transferable skills which can be applied to a wide range of careers and postgraduate programs.
Notes
In order for a student to be eligible for the Free Fees Initiative, they must have been living within the EU, UK or EEA countries, for the last 3 out of 5 years, must be a citizen and passport holder of the EU, UK or EEA and this must be their first time attending third level education, ie. university. Application deadline for EU students is February 1.
Admissions Requirements
US High School Diploma with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better (B+ average) unweighted and SAT with a minimum score of 1250 - 1400 on any two of the Critical Reading, Math and Writing sections and no score less than 500 or ACT with a minimum composite score of 27 - 32, Two Letters of Recommendation, Academic Statement. Weighted GPAs will be recalculated by the Applications & Admissions Team.
