Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology
Description
GMIT is renowned for being a student-centered organization, where students regularly comment on excellent staff-student relationships. Our Strategic Plan (2019-2023) has a strong focus on building communities as well as enhancing the individual experience. Our Core Values underpin our ethos and guide our thinking and actions – they speak of nurturing, respectful, and egalitarian culture students regularly comment on the excellent staff-student relationships.
Our vision is to provide you, our students, with a transformative university experience, empowering our graduates to fully contribute to the social, economic, and cultural betterment of society. This is appropriate now more than ever in the context of our ambition to become a Technological University with our consortium partners ITSligo and Letterkenny IT. Our graduates have an excellent track record in obtaining employment and are highly sought after by employers due to the nature of the applied learning we facilitate during your time with us.
Over 90% of our graduates are in employment or further study nine months after graduating. As a society we have faced many challenges in the last year, due to the Covid-19 global pandemic, and as a society we will continue work towards full recovery. In GMIT we have been innovative in ensuring that we continue to deliver an outstanding educational experience through a blended approach – ensuring the flexibility of an innovative online experience while continuing to support many on-campus activities including our strong practical focus. As you transition to higher education, we help you along the way with a five-week welcome program followed by peer-mentoring supports. This is what we refer to as the First Year Experience and I strongly recommend that you engage in all of these targeted initiatives designed to support you on your journey with us. More detailed information is included in this prospectus. We are also fortunate in GMIT with the strong relationship between our wonderful Students Union and our management team. Through the Students Union you will have opportunities to join a wide range of clubs and societies. I can’t emphasise enough how important this can be to help make new friends and form new bonds, although it is of course important to keep adequate time for study and coursework! Throughout your time in GMIT all we ask of you is that you make your best effort, and should you need support to deal with a particular challenge don’t be afraid to ask. We have an excellent Student Services team with experience of dealing with all of life’s challenges. Thank you for considering GMIT and I look forward to meeting you on your journey with us!
