Why should I study here?

Sigmund Freud University (SFU) is a unique institution that pioneered Psychotherapy Science as an academic programme. We seek to set new standards for research and teaching in psychotherapy by emphasizing research activities, practical training, and academic exchange among the different psychotherapy schools.Over the past 20 years, worldwide efforts have focused on establishing psychotherapy as a research discipline and profession in its own right. In this endeavour, the developments in Austria have played an important role, considering the fact that the Austrian Parliament passed the first Psychotherapy Law in 1990. This law establishes psychotherapy as an independent profession in its own right and regulates standardised scientific-based psychotherapy training. What has been missing so far, however, is its incorporation into an academic setting, in terms of training as well as research.

What are the admissions criteria?

At this point, SFU does not require US applicants to have AP or SAT/ACT scores. Applications are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and qualified applicants without these scores are simply required to take extra courses at SFU.

What is student life like?

Campus Studios is part of a unique campus in Vienna, comprising the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) and the Sigmund Freud University, where every aspect of student life is concentrated in one place. The best thing about shared living is of course, the communal aspect. To make sure you get enough exercise while you study, Campus Studios has an exclusive gym on the premises.SaunaThe building has its own sauna, ensuring that relaxation is on the doorstep of every student. Everyone who wants to can come and work up a sweat. Bike storage roomVienna is ideal for travelling from A to B by bike.
