The MA Southeast Asian Studies at Leiden University explores Southeast Asia in-depth and from the perspective of its history, literature, media, culture, religions, philosophy or philology. This one-year master’s in Southeast Asian Studies is designed for highly-motivated students interested in studying Southeast Asia from a comparative and global perspective. You will explore the countries or regions of Southeast Asia through the lens of complementary disciplines including history, literature, art and art history, media and cultural studies, religious studies, philosophy and philology.The one-year master in Southeast Asian Studies, a specialisation of Leiden University’s master in Asian Studies, offers a large and varied selection of subjects and the freedom to choose the areas on which you will focus.

Admissions Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in relevant field with a specialization Chinese Studies, Japanese Studies, Korean Studies or South and Southeast Asian Studies or a bachelor’s degree in the field of Humanities or Social Sciences and completed at least 30 EC (or equivalent) in courses at bachelor’s level on the history, art and/or culture of one or more East, South or Southeast Asian countries or regions (this may include the thesis) and knowledge of the nature and role of as well as the ability to analyze and report on academic inquiry in the humanities or social sciences, CV, Questionnaire Master Application.
