Profile
Finance will always be a popular business subject, given the central role finance plays in all organisations, regardless of size, sector or industry. Finance is also a varied subject, as it contains many different aspects/specialisms, including investment management, risk management, management accounting, portfolio management and much more.
The programme covers a range of applied areas of finance including, financial analysis and simulation, security analysis and portfolio management, plus a broad understanding of the nature of financial markets, institutions and the financial instruments that underpin financial transactions. It also covers key areas such as econometrics, which is to do with statistical and mathematical data/methods, linked to economic decision making. And macro/microeconomics, which are key components of economics and economic decision making. Students will gain the ability to understand financial statements, and a reasonable appreciation of the limitations of financial reporting.
The programme also offers students the ability to interpret financial data, including numerical and graphical data. This is a really in-demand skill from employers as the role data plays in our lives increases and finding staff that can interpret and use data is vital.
Obviously as a degree, it is essential for students to learn the theory, models and tools associated with finance, but with our in-practice, 3-year degree, we also want to help students understand how to do just that, use the theory “in-practice”.
