This Master’s programme at Uppsala University prepares you to work as communication and digital media professionals and researchers. WHY THIS PROGRAMME?The goal of the Master Programme in Social Sciences, specialising in Digital Media and Society, is to introduce and develop a critical and reflective perspective on the role of digital media in contemporary societies, focussing on their cultural, economic, political, and organisational dimensions and implications.This Master’s programme provides students with an advanced level of knowledge and skills in the empirical research methods, theories and ethical reasoning that are important for investigating and analysing digital media in everyday life, working environments and organisations. The programme also offers a solid foundation and preparation for doctoral research in the field of Media and Communication Studies, with a special focus on digital media and society. While not a vocational programme, it does offer advanced knowledge that prepares students for careers in the digital media environment. It teaches creative and critical thinking capacities that are needed by students in their future careers, and for becoming critical, ethically and responsibly active citizens, who seek to contribute to creating and maintaining open and inclusive societies.Digital Media and Society, which is offered in English, is very popular among both international and Swedish students and attracts hundreds of applicants every year. The group of 20-30 students who are selected and attend the programme comes from very diverse academic, educational, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, which further strengthens the programme’s focus on inclusion, diversity and multidisciplinarity.Many of the programme’s graduates currently work in the media industry, as practitioners or as digital media and communication specialists, while a number of the programme’s graduates have pursued doctoral studies.

Admissions Requirements
Applicants should have a bachelor's degree with a major in social sciences or a similar field of study.Applicants from non-anglophone countries must provide proof of English proficiency.Application deadline for non EU students is January 15.
