The one-year master’s programme in environmental science aims to develop your competence in working with environmental issues. Sustainable development is a core theme within the programme, which will help prepare you for your future career, whether you aim to work at a government agency or in the private sector. While studyingThe master’s programme in environmental science addresses current societal problems that are connected to global environmental and health issues. The transition to a more sustainable society is a major challenge, requiring joint efforts by universities, society and the private sector. The challenge is complex and requires a multidisciplinary approach. The programme begins with a course focusing on the complex issues related to land use, where different interests such as natural resource management, land claims and ecological compensation are discussed. In order to achieve reality-related conditions, we use so called challenge-based pedagogy, where students develop innovative solutions for complex sustainability challenges in project form in collaboration with the public and industrial sectors.Specialize or broaden your skillsFollowing the first course, you then choose between a variety of courses in the fields of environmental science, biology and geoscience, such as Freshwater management and Analyses of environmental changes. The teaching in our courses consists of lectures, seminars, group exercises, laboratory exercises and field exercises. You also have the opportunity to read up to 15 higher education credits where you broaden your education with courses in other subject areas. You can also choose to do an internship, which can take place either in the public or private sectors. You finish the program with a degree project, which is usually conducted in cooperation with an authority or company.Think globally, solve problems locallyAn important part of the programme is to work with different forms of environmental problem solving. Important starting points include risk analysis, and analysis of the consequences of environmental changes. This includes work on adaptations to climate change and the transition to a sustainable future. The final degree project provides further opportunities for deepened problem solving in any part of the environment.
