Profile
This programme is designed for young and mid-career professionals who perform or aspire to perform tasks predominantly in applied research, or who require academic knowledge and skills to enhance the execution of their work. Successful completion of the MSc degree programme provides graduates with a qualification that enables them to continue to PhD level, either in the Netherlands or abroad.Important academic elements of the programme include developing a critical understanding of appropriate tools; exposure to new methods and techniques; gaining competence in developing tools for the acquisition, processing, transformation, analysis, modelling, storage and presentation of spatial data; using geo-information in identifying and responding to development problems and in drafting development. The potential of remote sensing is huge. And the huge quantities of data produced by these techniques pose yet another challenge. This is where the geographical information systems (GIS) come in. Central to every GIS is the database, which stores the data on which the eventual output depends. Designing software to apply these data to real-world problems is another part of the game. Software gives users access to the database and transforms and manipulates the data for such purposes as studying trend patterns, examining environmental issues and simulating the outcomes of project proposals or planning procedures. Throughout our programmes at ITC, we cover the full range of disciplines involved in this field. Studying at ITC will equip you to take your place in the field of international development.SPECIALIZATIONS:-APPLIED REMOTE SENSING FOR EARTH SCIENCESLearn to explore for earth and geothermal resources to secure future demands for energy and minerals-GEOINFORMATICSLearn to develop technologies required for analyzing, distributing and visualizing geo-spatial data.-LAND ADMINISTRATIONLearn to use cadastral intelligence for designing and applying responsible land administration solutions.-NATURAL HAZARDS AND DISASTER RISK REDUCTIONLearn to predict and monitor multi-hazard risk and help reduce our vulnerability to disasters-NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENTLearn to utilize geo-spatial data to help achieve a more sustainable use of natural resources.-URBAN PLANNING AND MANAGEMENTLearn to understand dynamic urban processes and create interventions to help make cities competitive, compact, sustainable, inclusive and resilient.-WATER RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENTLearn to use earth observation and geo-information techniques to create safe and sustainable water management solutions.-FREE SPECIALIZATIONIn addition to the above you also have the option of designing your very own free specialization
