Profile
The program is designed for students seeking management positions at companies working with international challenges. Throughout the program the students’ analytical capacity is developed and stimulated. Focus is dedicated to an enhanced ability of understanding how firms can find competitive, dynamic and socially responsible solutions to international competitive challenges. The teaching takes place in a multi-cultural learning environment, which prepares the students to work in international teams and knowledge intense market organization in global industrial companies. Strategic marketing and management issues as well as relationship marketing in networks are handled within the courses at the program, with a particular focus on emerging markets such as the Baltic Sea Region, Russia, China, India and Africa. Working with live-case companies plays a central role throughout the program. In teams the students are assigned a live case company, which brings their international strategic challenges to class. The student teams work to solve these live strategic issues faced by highly internationalized and competitive Swedish firms of different sizes, ranging from large multinational corporations to small and medium sized regional companies. International Business strategy is a one-year program of 60 credits. When enrolling to the program, students take part in program-specific workshops on international communication and team building, academic writing and academic data gathering in order to form a platform for learning. In parallel, the autumn semester starts, containing two courses with a focus on multinational companies of different size from mature markets and how they handle strategic business challenges in emerging markets. During the spring semester two courses on strategy from a resource based perspective and on international marketing of small and medium sized enterprises entering and taking off from emerging markets are given. Also a degree project, writing a master thesis in group based on an independently chosen topic and in collaboration with live-case companies, is conducted.
