Profile
In the programme, curriculum theory meets practice: The programme includes the possibility for a clinical practicum at the Kuopio University Hospital, consisting of e.g. quality assurance measurements, training in radiation dosage planning for cancer treatment and getting familiar with the routine tasks of a medical physicist. The clinical practicum can be replaced with a research practicum at one of the high-class research groups at the Department of Applied Physics at the University of Eastern Finland. The curriculum of the medical physics programme has been constructed so that, in addition to compulsory courses, the student also has optional courses or study modules which can be freely included in the studies according to students´ academic interests and future career plans. In addition to the training in medical physics, students will gain critical research skills necessary for postgraduate studies in the field of medical physics and technology. Moreover, the programme serves as a launchpad for young and talented students seeking a career in the medical technology and diagnostics industry. Students who have successfully completed the programme will be awarded with a master’s degree in applied physics.
