The University of Eastern Finland (UEF) is a multidisciplinary university located in Joensuu and Kuopio, Finland. It was founded in 2010 through the merger of the University of Joensuu and the University of Kuopio. UEF has over 15,000 students and 3,000 staff, and offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in a variety of fields, including science, technology, medicine, business, education, and the arts.
UEF is known for its strong focus on interdisciplinary research and its close collaboration with industry and government. The university has a number of world-leading research centers, including the Center for Inflammation Research, the Institute of Public Health and Clinical Nutrition, and the Natural Resources Institute Finland.

Student Life
UEF is located on three lively campuses, Joensuu, Kuopio, and Savonlinna. The University of Eastern Finland offers its staff and students the opportunity to utilize sports services with the intent of increasing general well-being. The Student Union aims to provide its members with fun experiences and the pure joy of exercise. It is not our intent to turn our members into serious athletes but to encourage them to spontaneously partake in sports activities. The Student Union aims to achieve this by organizing events such as the bi-annual sports afternoon, where members are given the opportunity to try out a variety of sports that suit various individual skills and tastes.
Housing
The university does not provide housing, and refers students to a third party site. Housing near the university ranges from 150 to 270 euros per month.
