In the Utrecht University MSc in Multidisciplinary Economics, you will learn to cross the borders of economics into other scientific disciplines – a real strength of the Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.) – in order to provide sound research and applicable solutions to real-world problems, now and in the future.The two-year Research Master in Multidisciplinary Economics was carefully designed to give you the specialised knowledge and expertise you need for a career in economics. Moreover, the multidisciplinary context will encourage you to look at complex economics issues from different perspectives and help you to apply that knowledge in academia, industry or government.U.S.E. provides you with a flexible and comprehensive Master’s programme. The curriculum combines compulsory first-year courses, designed to give you a solid foundation in economics, with elective second-year courses that match your personal areas of research interest. In this highly international programme, you will work closely with fellow students on projects, courses, events and research, offering the chance to develop interpersonal and social skills along with practical and academic strengths.Outline of the programme UU libraryIn your first year, you will gain the solid theoretical basis necessary to conduct economic research and analysis. Additionally you will learn to look at economic problems from the perspectives of other disciplines in the course Thinktank Institutions. During the second year, you will complete a series of specialised elective courses at U.S.E. and/or the University of Groningen. Throughout the programme, special attention is given to the development of essential research skills such as data handling, academic writing, and presentation. From the end of the first year and continuing throughout the second year of the programme, you develop your own research topic starting with a literature review, followed by a research proposal, and finally culminating in the Master’s thesis.CAREER PERSPECTIVESThe MSc in Multidisciplinary Economics is a comprehensive and versatile degree that thoroughly prepares you for a range of careers as a research-oriented economist in either the public or private sector. Admissions Requirements
A bachelor's degree in a related field is required. Applicants from non-anglophone countries must provide proof of English proficiency (TOEFL 96 and IELTS 7.0). Undergraduate GPA is evaluated and typical requires at least a 3.4 average. GRE: minimum score of 80% on the quantitative section Admission Deadline: April 1
